First Draft===========This song is based in the nineteenth century. There are three maincharacters in the story. cousin Kate, Cottage maiden and the Lord. Thetitle of this poem is self-explanatory. As you can submit the poem isbased on a character called cousin Kate. As she is the main characterin the poem, the livelong poem revolves around her. The poem is based onTriangular Conflict, which means that there is a difference of opinion betweenthree people. The poem basically tells us about 19th century life andpeoples attitudes towards unlawful relationships. The poem tells usabout a cottage maiden who had an affair with a Lord. She looses hervirginity to him, and and consequently regrets the whole ordeal. In the 19thcentury if you were not known as pure, then fellow friends and familywould reject you. It was seen to be unclean and impure if you were tohave sex activity before marriage. Men would then look down on you in disgust,as would friends and family. The poem demonstrat es how a man can lovea woman, then throw her away and move onto another as he pleases, andbecause he was a entitle the cottage maiden could not place a thing. Thisbrings into light the difference between higher and lower classifypeople. If the cottage maiden had said anything, people would notbelieve her and would tear a blind eye to her, and to her accusations.Stanza 1 portrays the introduction to the poem. The issues raised inthese two stanzas show that she was lured by the lord. This tells usthat he dragged her in interchangeable an animal luring its prey, waiting toattack its victim. At the beginning of stanza 1 it tells us that sheis happy with her life. According to the introduction she works on acottage and is happy with her life. According to this she iscontented her mates. She is happy with her friends and is alltogether happy with her life. She then goes on to say why did a greatlord become me out. This tells us that out of all the workers, or allthe girls the lord k nows, the cottage maiden was chosen. The start ofthe poem is written in first-class honours degree person narrative and carries on like thatthroughout the poem.The structure of this stanza is written in first person narrative,this means it was written from her point of view, and shows herfeelings and no one else. The language used is very early 19th-20thcentury it gives the effect of happiness leading to sadness.
